When COVID-19 began, the Order of Malta’s Los Angeles Location teamed up with Food Forward to address food insecurity across L.A. county.

Food Forward is a food recovery organization that specializes in recovering surplus produce that would otherwise go to waste and connecting that produce to organizations, like the Order of Malta, that take that abundant produce and distribute it to individuals who can use it.

Partnerships like that between the Western Association’s Los Angeles Location and Food Forward help address food insecurity in the populations most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Knights and Dames from the L.A. Location brought 5000 pounds worth of produce back from Food Forward to the Order of Malta’s local food pantry.

The Western Association is an integral part of Food Forward’s own mission to serve more and more communities as need grows. When members of the Order of Malta go to Food Forward to pick up produce, they’re back on the road within ten to fifteen minutes bringing that produce to the people who need it.

Recently, Knights and Dames from the L.A. Location brought 5000 pounds worth of produce back from Food Forward to the Order of Malta’s local food pantry. With that produce, they then assembled several hundred service packages and bags to distribute to the homeless and families who need food at St. Peter’s Church.
