Pilgrimages

The Order of Malta traces its roots to the Hospital of Saint John in Jerusalem, which was founded to serve poor and sick pilgrims over 900 years ago.

The Order of Malta is a religious order whose objective is to glorify God through the sanctification of its members. Returning to God and renewing one’s faith through pilgrimage are at the heart of the Order.

For members of the Order, the sense of belonging and serving the poor and the sick while on pilgrimage re-creates the confraternity found at the hospital where the Order began. Pilgrimage enriches the faith and inspires the faithful to serve the most vulnerable and those living on the periphery of society.
