Dear Knights, Dames and Provisional and Auxiliary Members,

Please congratulate the members of the Western Association Hospitaller Committee and the leadership team of our new affiliate, the Order of Malta Mobile Ministries, Inc., for the successful launch of the Order of Malta Mobile Services breakfast and flu shots event at the St. Francis Center in Los Angeles.

Over 40 members and volunteers turned out on a rainy Thanksgiving morning to serve over 200 persons.

The new van was used to transport the tents, tables, chairs, medical supplies and vaccines to the site in partnership with the St. Francis Center and a half dozen cheerful nursing students from Mt. Saint Mary’s School of Nursing.

On Saturday, the van was used to set up an event with the Orange Auxiliary members to distribute backpacks to the homeless. With mobile services, the Order’s members now can reach out better to the homeless and needy where they are. 

This new model of outreach is based in part on the experience of our members serving the needy after the terrible forest fires in Northern California and the mobile medical clinic purchased last year for the Order of Malta Clinic of Northern California.

This model will be tested in the coming months in Los Angeles and adapted to meet the local needs of our lords, the poor and sick. Our intention is to serve all Western Association Locations and Areas with Order of Malta Mobile Services once the model has been tested and refined.
